Lighthouses of Oregon

Scroll down to see Oregon's 9 Public Lighthouses (from North to South).....

#1 - Tillamook Rock Lighthouse - This lighthouse is located 1.5 miles off the Oregon coastline (making it difficult to get great captures - for me anyway) and can be viewed from Ecola State Park, Cannon Beach & Seaside.  Built in 1881 this lighthouse has an interesting background & recommend looking it up for the many tales she has.  The light was last lit back in 1957 and this lighthouse is not open to the public.

#2 - Cape Mears Lighthouse - This lighthouse has a tower of only 38 feet as its sits on the edge of a cliff 200 feet above the ocean below.   This lighthouse was constructed in 1890 and was decommissioned in 1963 - it now has a powerful beacon.  The lighthouse is open to the public during limited times but grounds around the building are always accessible.  Pretty neat little lighthouse and one of my favorites.
#3 - Yaquina Head Lighthouse - This lighthouse was constructed in 1873 and the tower stands 92 feet high and is 162 feet above the ocean below.  This is the tallest lighthouse on the Oregon Coast and is one of the most visited lighthouses on the West Coast with over 400,000 visitors each year.
#4 - Yaquina Bay Lighthouse - Constructed in 1871 this lighthouse has the shortest length of service  of the 9 Oregon lighthouses - just three years as it was shut down after the Yaquina Head Lighthouse was built just 3 miles North of this current location.  The lighthouse has been restored by Friends of Lincoln County and is filled with period furniture.
#5 - Heceta Lighthouse - This lighthouse has the same architecture plans as the Umpqua Lighthouse and was used to save money in design cost.  Lighthouse was constructed in 1894 and towers 205 feet above the Pacific below and can be seen for 21 miles.
#6 - Umpqua River Lighthouse - This lighthouse is the second on the site as the first lighthouse built in 1857 was washed away by floods in 1864.  Current lighthouse was constructed in 1894 and is open for tours today.
#7 - Cape Argo Lighthouse - Constructed in 1866 this lighthouse has a 44' tower and can only been seen from a distance.
#8 - Coquille River Lighthouse - This lighthouse was constructed in 1896 and was the last of the 9 Oregon lighthouses built.  Lighthouse was replaced by an automated beacon in 1939.  Lighthouse is located in Bullard's Beach State Park.
#9- Cape Blanco Lighthouse - This lighthouse is Oregon's most southern and is the oldest original tower of Oregon's 9 lighthouses.  Completed in 1870 this lighthouse sits atop a 200' cliff that stretches 1 1/2 miles off the coast.
